POS Terminal

Where to find it: the POS terminal is a separate app, not a page inside Karitm — it opens at client.karitm.ir. Sign in with the same Karitm username and password and choose "Employee portal" mode; from the employee dashboard, the "POS Terminal" card opens this screen.

The POS terminal is Karitm's cash register: a keyboard-first screen built for a café or restaurant till on a desktop or tablet. Every invoice registered here is the same sales invoice you see in Sales & Purchases; its shift and cash drawer are the same data as Treasury; and its default behavior (service charge, automatic fees, invoice numbering, kitchen stations) comes from the Portal's settings, not from the device itself.

This page is about the terminal itself. The settings a manager configures for it from the Portal live under General Settings ("POS terminal settlement") and "Invoice Charges" — this page only explains their effect.

Signing in and setup

  1. Open a browser to client.karitm.ir.
  2. At the top of the login screen, choose between "Employee portal" and "Kiosk". A cashier always picks "Employee portal" — "Kiosk" mode is for fixed devices running the attendance clock or guest self-order, not for the till.
  3. Enter your usual Karitm username and password.
  4. If your account has access to more than one company, "Select profile" comes next; if that company has more than one branch, "Select division" follows. With a single profile and a single branch, you won't see these two steps.
  5. You land on your personal dashboard. The "POS Terminal" card opens it — this card is only shown to a user who holds the "Create sales invoice" permission.

"Select profile" at login is not the same as a "POS profile." The first says which company you're working in; the second is something a manager sets up for each user in the Portal ("Till user profiles") and says which cash drawer, which document template and which invoice sequence that cashier works with — see Shift and cash drawer.

Installing as an app (PWA)

An install card is available from the "Settings" or "More" screen. On Android and desktop it shows an "Install" button and the browser installs it directly; on iOS, which doesn't support that, the button becomes "How to" and walks through "Add to Home Screen" in Safari. Dismissing the card hides it for seven days.

When a new version is released, a bar appears at the bottom of the screen reading "A new version is ready." Tap "Update" to reload once, or "Later" to keep working in this session. The bar stays until you act.

Shift and cash drawer

The terminal's "Shift" is the very same "shift handover" data shown in Treasury — both read and write the same custody session.

Opening a shift

If you hold the "Open shift" permission, the Shift tab shows an opening form: pick a free cash box, enter the "Opening float" amount, add a note if you like, then tap "Start shift." If the box tied to your profile is already held by someone else, or no box is free, a clear message says so right there.

Whether a shift is open or not does not stop sales — a cashier can still ring up invoices with no shift open. What a shift actually controls is only cash reconciliation: if the box tied to your profile doesn't match this shift's box, or no box is assigned to you at all, cash receipts simply don't land on any shift's expected total — it doesn't block the sale.

Counting and closing

Closing a shift has two steps:

  1. Start count. Until you tap this, the system's expected amount is deliberately hidden — a "blind count," the same concept as Treasury's shift handover, so your count stays independent of the system figure. Once started, enter your own counted amount for each item (cash, card, cheque, …); for cash, a banknote-by-banknote breakdown is also available.
  2. Submit count, then Close shift. Submitting the count moves the shift to "Pending review." The "Close shift" button is pressed by the same cashier — this terminal has no separate supervisor-approval step. Any variance is shown before you close, and can't be changed afterward.
Status Meaning
Open Shift is running
Counting "Start count" pressed, not yet submitted
Pending review Count submitted; only "Close shift" is left

If you tap "Close shift" with a non-zero variance and it reports that closing did not go through, do not try again — each attempt creates another variance record. This is a known server issue; ask a manager to follow up from the Portal.

If a manager has turned on "Full report on shift close" for your profile, closing the shift opens and prepares a full report (cash summary, breakdown by tender, sales and refunds, manual cash movements) automatically for printing; otherwise open the same report any time with the "Full report" button.

The sales screen

The sales screen has two columns: the product catalog and the current order. On narrower screens (below roughly 1100px), these collapse into one column with two tabs, "Catalog" and "Order."

Finding a product

The box above the catalog is both a text search and a barcode input; its placeholder, "Search a product or scan a barcode…," says exactly that. Scanning needs no click: a scanner sends its characters very fast, ending with an Enter, and the terminal tells a scan apart from manual typing by that speed — on an exact match it adds the item to the order instantly, even if focus is somewhere else on the screen. If a code matches more than one product, the term stays in the search box so you can pick from the tile list yourself.

Below the search box, product categories appear as clickable tiles (pulled live from the server, not a fixed list), along with a product-kind filter row: All / Products / Services / Bundles.

Products, services and bundles

  • A regular product tile carries a stock chip: an in-stock count, "Out of stock," or "Pre-sellable."
  • A service tile carries a "Service" badge and no stock chip — stock has no meaning for a service.
  • A bundle tile carries a "Bundle" badge and, instead of stock, shows an item count ("{n} items") and a sellability state. Adding a bundle to the order does not create a single line — every member product is added as its own line sharing one quantity, each priced proportionally from its own price (not its discounted price).

Clicking a tile adds the product with a quantity of one. Right-clicking a tile, before adding it, opens the "Item options" window so you can set the quantity and a kitchen note in advance (see Order and line items).

Order type

At the top of the order column sits a three-way switch, Dine-in / Takeaway / Delivery, and the fields below it change with your choice:

Order type Fields
Dine-in Pick a table (see Tables), guest count, waiter name, "Serve appetizer first" toggle
Takeaway Pager number, prep time (Now / Normal / 15 minutes / 30 minutes)
Delivery Customer address, delivery zone, shipping fee, courier name, delivery note

"Serve appetizer first" only prints on the receipt for the waiter to see; it has no effect on the order, the kitchen, or the invoice.

For delivery orders, the address is picked from that customer's own address book (with add/edit buttons that include a map); without an address, a delivery order cannot be registered. The shipping fee is suggested from the selected zone's tariff, if one is defined, and can be overridden manually; if no zone is defined and no fee is entered, a warning notes that no shipping charge will land on the invoice.

Tables

Where to find it: the "Tables" tab (shortcut F6)

The table map is available in two views, "Tiles" and "Timeline."

Table status Meaning
Free Available for a new order or a reservation
Occupied Has an open order
Reserved Booked for a later time
Cleaning Temporarily unavailable
Out of service Unavailable

Clicking a free table occupies it that same instant and takes you to the sales screen; if you don't add anything and switch the order type away or cancel, the table frees itself again. On an occupied table with no line added yet, an "Awaiting order" label overlays the tile.

The "Reserve" button on a free table opens the reservation form: day (Today / Tomorrow / Day after / Another date), time, quick "+30 minutes" style bumps, party size, customer name and phone (required), and notes. If a table already carries more than one reservation, a "Manage reservations" window lists all of them with edit, cancel and add actions.

Reserving and managing table occupancy needs a separate permission. If you see "You don't have permission to reserve," ask a manager to add it to the cashier group.

Order and line items

Every order line has a quantity, a discount, and an actions column.

  • Quantity: use the + and − buttons, or type directly into the quantity field. The F4 shortcut on the active line moves focus to this field.
  • Line discount: percent only — a number you type into that line's own discount field. There is no per-line amount discount; for a fixed amount, use the whole-invoice discount instead.
  • Whole-invoice discount: opened with the "Overall discount" button below the table; it offers six common percentages (5–50%) and two linked fields, percent and amount — editing either recomputes the other. It cannot exceed its discount base.
  • Line note: opened by right-clicking a line that's already on the order, or with the Ctrl+M shortcut; up to 120 characters, and it prints on both the receipt and that item's kitchen slip. Six ready-made notes ("No onion," "Spicy," "Mild," "No ice," "Pack separately," "Rush") can be added with one tap.
  • Item options: opened by right-clicking a catalog tile before adding it, combining quantity, any product options (where defined) and a kitchen note in one window.

In the current build, real option groups (like size or spice level) aren't defined for most products yet, and the message "No option group is defined for this item" is shown; in practice, this same window is mostly used to set the quantity and kitchen note before adding an item.

The totals block

From top to bottom, each row shown only when its amount is non-zero:

Row Meaning
Items total Sum of every line's price before any discount
Line discounts Total of each line's own discount
Discount Whole-invoice discount
Coupon code A loyalty-club coupon, if one is applied
Charge rows Service charge, packing, shipping and the like — see Order charges
VAT Value-added tax
Cash rounding Rounding applied to the final amount
Payable The final amount, in larger type than the rest

Customer and loyalty club

Every invoice needs a customer; this terminal has no anonymous "walk-in" sale. If your company has defined a "quick-sale default customer" in the Portal, it's applied automatically to customer-less invoices; otherwise you must pick a customer before settling.

The customer bar above the sales screen opens with the F2 shortcut; the full customer screen (profile, addresses and club) opens with F3. Search works by mobile number, name or customer code; a "Recent" list shows recently used customers too.

Quick-creating a new customer

The "New customer" button opens a short form — only name and mobile number are required ("Save and select"); fill in the rest later from the full customer screen.

Loyalty club and points

If the customer belongs to the loyalty club, you'll see their membership number, join date and four point figures (available, pending, total earned, total spent); for a non-member, an "Enroll in club" button sits right there. The "Redeemable rewards" section lists rewards this customer's points can redeem; tapping "Redeem" deducts the points and applies a discount coupon to the current invoice.

Club points are not a payment method. To use them, redeem a reward here before settling so it lands on the invoice as a discount; the payment screen has no "pay with points" option.

CRM profile

If you hold CRM viewing permission, the "CRM profile" panel shows the customer's temperature (cold/warm/hot), CRM score, total spend, last contact, roles, and their open tasks/notes; you can log a new call or note right from there. This is the same CRM record, just summarized at the till.

Order charges

Service charge, a packing fee, a shipping fee, and any other charge a manager has defined in the Portal ("Invoice Charges") land on the order automatically, following that configuration's rules — the cashier invents nothing. With every change to the order (items, order type, discount), the terminal asks the Portal again and refreshes the charge rows.

Depending on how that rule is set up in the Portal, each charge row is in one of three states:

State Sign Meaning
Mandatory "This charge cannot be removed under the Portal's rule" The cashier can't remove it or change its amount
Removable A remove icon next to the row The cashier can take this charge off this particular order
Editable A pencil icon next to the amount The cashier can manually change the amount on this order; a "Reset to rule amount" link restores the automatic value

These two abilities — "remove" and "edit amount" — are independent, and a manager sets them in two places in the Portal: on the charge type under "Invoice Charges" for charges that come from server rules, and on the rule itself under General Settings → "POS terminal settlement" → "Order charges" for the till's own service and delivery fee. A change reaches an open till within a minute.

If the terminal can't reach the server's rules (offline, or an outdated build), it quietly falls back to the till's own settings so a sale is never blocked — no separate message is shown and the charge rows stay where they are.

Park and retrieve

"Park" means setting an in-progress order aside to serve the next customer, then resuming it later. The "Park" tab (shortcut Ctrl+S or F5) shows two lists:

  • Orders parked on this device — complete, with notes and options, stored only in this browser.
  • Open drafts (all tills) — the same orders on the server, visible from any other till in the branch; from another till they can only be viewed and deleted, not fully resumed.

On each card, "Resume" brings the order back and "Delete" removes it; there is no cap or expiry on parked orders.

Because the this-device list lives in the browser's storage, clearing browser data or switching devices erases that local copy — even if the server copy is still visible on another till's park screen.

An order that already has a captured card payment cannot be parked — it must be settled right there.

Settlement and payment

Payment methods on this terminal:

Method Shortcut Notes
Cash c Enter the amount received; change is calculated automatically
Card reader (Shaparak) k If a card-reader terminal is wired to this till, the amount is sent automatically and the transaction status shows live; otherwise you enter the amount and a tracking number manually
Card-to-card / deposit q A transfer document with a tracking number
Cheque h The full cheque form: bank, branch, account number, series and serial, Sayad number, due date
Account / on credit a Only with a real customer (not the default one); creates no document — the debt stays on the customer's account
Cash on delivery d Delivery orders only; creates no document, since the courier hasn't collected the money yet

You can combine several methods on one invoice ("Split invoice") — splitting evenly among several people or assigning specific items to each share. The total of what's registered can never exceed the payable amount.

If the final invoice amount isn't a round figure, the "Cash rounding" setting in the Portal rounds it down, in the customer's favor, to the configured step.

A gift card, customer credit and a "loyalty card" do not exist as independent payment methods on this terminal. Club points are applied as a discount from the customer screen instead — see Customer and loyalty club.

Once the amount is fully covered, "Finalize and print receipt" closes the invoice and prints the receipt; "Finalize" without printing is also available. If registering one payment line (not the invoice itself) fails, the invoice still stays finalized, and only that one line can be fixed with a "Retry" button — there's no need to re-enter the whole sale.

Invoice, receipt and kitchen display

Numbering

The invoice number is drawn from the same numbering sequence a manager sets in the Portal ("POS terminal settlement" → Invoice numbering) — starting number, digit count, reset period (never/shift/day/month/year), and whether the sequence is shared across tills or separate per till. A manager can also give a specific cashier their own dedicated sequence in that cashier's "Till profile."

Receipt

The thermal receipt, 72mm wide, opens automatically in a print window after "Finalize and print receipt"; "Reprint receipt" is available afterward too. It contains:

Company header (logo and name from the Portal's invoice-print settings) → the invoice number (large), with a barcode if that's enabled → a pager number (takeaway orders with a pager only) → date, time, customer name and order type → the items table (description, options/note, quantity, price, line total) → items total, discounts, charges, tax, rounding, payable amount → a payment breakdown with change, if enabled in settings → an "Unsettled" banner with the remaining balance, for on-account or cash-on-delivery invoices → notes and the company's footer.

For a delivery order, when "Auto-print courier slip" is on, a second slip prints too: the courier slip — address, map location, customer phone number, zone, and the amount to collect at the door; unlike the receipt, it carries no item detail or tax.

Kitchen display (KDS)

The "Kitchen" tab (shortcut F7) shows tickets in progress, grouped by station. Stations come from the "product category → station" mapping in the Portal's general settings; until that mapping exists, this screen stays empty and points you to the Portal.

Ticket status Meaning
Queued Just registered
In progress Marked with the "Start" button
Ready Marked with the "Ready" button
Delivered Closed with the "Delivered" button
Cancelled Set aside with the "Cancel" button

Tickets waiting more than ten minutes turn a warning color, and past twenty minutes a critical one; the screen updates live, with no manual refresh needed.

Refunds

Where to find it: the "Invoices" tab (shortcut F9)

A list of this till's invoices (or, with a wider filter, every till's) searchable by number, customer or title. Select a sales invoice and tap "Refund":

  1. Choose which items, and how much of each, are being returned — a refund can be partial, and items already returned can't be selected again.
  2. Pick a reason from the list (Poor quality, Wrong order, Late delivery, Customer changed their mind, Other) and add a note if needed.
  3. Tap "Submit refund." If you don't hold direct refund-approval permission, the return invoice is saved as a draft for someone else to approve.

After submitting, you can go straight to "Repay" — the same settlement screen, in reverse. The methods available for repaying are narrower: cash, card-to-card/deposit, cheque, and crediting the customer's account (instead of paying cash, the customer's balance is credited). "Cash on delivery" has no meaning here, and the card reader cannot be used live — since the terminal service has no reverse-charge direction, you can only cancel the charge on the reader device itself and enter its tracking number manually. Partial repayment is possible too; whatever isn't repaid stays credited to the customer's account.

When the internet drops

A red bar appears at the top of the sales screen reading "Network connection is down." Until it reconnects:

  • No invoice or payment can be registered.
  • The order open on this device stays safe — nothing is lost, but nothing is sent either.

Unlike the staff attendance-clock device, till sales are not queued offline and sent automatically later. You simply have to wait for the connection to return; once it does, a green "Connection restored" bar shows for a few seconds and you carry on from where you left off.

If the outage runs long, a full-page "This device isn't connected to the network" or "Server isn't responding" screen appears, showing how long it's been down, the last successful contact, and a countdown to the next automatic retry.

Display size and shortcuts

Display size

The terminal needs a width of at least 768px; below that, instead of the sales screen, a "This terminal is for a desktop till" message appears and suggests a floor-view screen or a larger display. Below roughly 1100px, the catalog and order columns collapse into one switchable column.

Text size and layout adjust automatically to the screen's width and height; a manual control also sits at the top of the screen: − and + buttons, or the shortcuts Ctrl and =, Ctrl and -, and Ctrl and 0 (back to automatic).

Frequently asked questions

Why don't I see the "POS Terminal" card on my dashboard?

You don't hold the "Create sales invoice" permission. Ask a manager to enable it for you.

Why can't I open a shift?

Either you don't hold the "Open shift" permission, or no cash box is free — each case shows its own message.

I haven't opened a shift; can I still sell?

Yes. A shift only controls cash reconciliation, not permission to sell.

Why can't I remove the service charge?

A manager has defined that rule as "not removable" in the Portal; changing it is only possible from there.

Why doesn't the card reader work live on the refund screen?

The terminal service has no reverse-charge direction. Cancel the charge on the device itself and only record its tracking number here.

I can't see my parked order from another till — why?

The full copy (with notes and options) stays on the device that parked it; from another till, only the server's copy — without full detail — can be viewed and deleted.

The internet went down; do I lose my invoices?

The order open on your device stays safe, but it isn't registered until the connection returns. There's no offline queue; you have to wait.
